A sponsor confirms a new-account request; an access approver decides whether a person should receive a permission. You may receive either kind of work item depending on your responsibilities.
You need an existing account and an assigned work item. Never ask a requester for their password or authentication code. If you do not recognize a request or cannot judge it, contact Tyler rather than approving to clear the notification.
- Open account management from your usual bookmark or this guide.
- Open Cases and your assigned work item, or use the notification's work-item link after checking its destination.
- Check the requester and intended recipient. They can differ when someone requests for another person.
- Read the requested access, reason, and start/end dates.
- For sponsorship, confirm you know the person and intended to sponsor them. For access, confirm the specific permission and duration are appropriate.
- Use the work item's approval or rejection action, including a helpful explanation where offered. Review the decision before completing it.
- Check the result to confirm your decision was recorded.
Expected result: your decision is recorded. Further approval or provisioning may remain; a closed work item alone does not guarantee immediate access.
The requester verifies their email before sponsorship proceeds. Email verification does not mean you approved the account. After approval they receive instructions to select an initial password using the reset process.
Direct them to Create your account if they try to sign in after email verification alone. You do not set or receive their password on their behalf.
- Email but no actionable case: it may already be handled or no longer applicable. Inspect assigned work in account management before trying a second decision.
- Requester named you but nothing arrived: confirm the sponsor email and whether they verified their own email.
- Wrong sponsor or unfamiliar request: contact Tyler. A familiar display name alone is not sufficient reason to approve.
- No decision controls: check the work item is assigned to you. Ordinary users are not automatically approvers for everything.
Contact Tyler using your existing contact details. Share request references privately. Do not post requesters' personal details in the Wiki.
