Element is the messaging client for Matrix. Your Matrix account, rooms, and encryption recovery are distinct from a browser login session.
Use the account and application access assigned to you. If no access-request option is listed, contact Tyler rather than creating a duplicate account. Open Element / Matrix.
¶ Sign in and join a conversation
- Open the Trafford Element web client. Use the configured homeserver and offered sign-in route; ask Tyler before choosing a different server or creating another account.
- Complete sign-in. If you already use another device, follow the device-verification prompts to establish trust.
- Open an invited room or start a conversation with the exact Matrix ID of the intended person.
- Check the room name and membership before sending a message or file.
- Set up or verify secure key backup/recovery when prompted, and store the recovery information privately.
Expected result: You are in the intended account and room, with device verification completed where needed.
Do not publish recovery keys or verification codes. Confirm a recipient’s identity before accepting unexpected verification requests. Leaving a room or signing out does not promise deletion of messages held by other participants.
- Old encrypted messages are unreadable: use another verified device or your recovery information; resetting the account password alone does not restore encryption keys.
- No invitation appears: confirm your full Matrix ID with the sender.
- Another device looks unfamiliar: review your sessions and contact Tyler if you suspect compromise.
¶ Next step and help
If the steps above do not resolve the problem, Contact Tyler using your existing contact details. Include the application, time, and error wording; omit passwords, tokens, and private recovery links.
